OUR COMMITMENT

In our curated online shop "the wearness", we want to offer you an ethical alternative of exceptional and handpicked fashion and beauty products. Sustainability is the basis of our business. We constantly strive for continuous improvement in the direction of responsible corporate growth.

REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS

With the support of Leaders for Climate Action, we were able to measure the CO2 consumption of "the wearness". With the following actions, we are successfully reducing it.

CLIMATE NEUTRALITY

We measured our carbon footprint on a basic scope. By compensating our full footprint, we help to decrease the damage that our emissions are causing.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Our "the wearness" office space electricity is provided by a reliable green energy supplier which delivers 100% green or renewable electricity.

SUSTAINABLE BANKING

We use the "green" bank Triodos for our corporate banking and they invest our money according to high sustainability standards.

RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL

We cut down on our flights and move towards train travel as it has a significant impact on our carbon footprint.

CLIMATE STRIKES

Supporting Climate Demo's e.g. the Fridays for Future movement, helping to increase the pressure on politicians. Give your employees free time to go. Spreading the news.

VEGGY FOOD

Meat and dairy consumption cause a lot of carbon emissions. Minimizing our carbon-intensive food and drinks decreases a the carbon footprint.

SUSTAINABLE OFFICE I

We set a range of measurements to reduce our carbon footprint and set a good example for our team of how to use resources sparingly: 1. Waste separation system.

SUSTAINABLE OFFICE II

2. Minimal plastic waste; 3. Minimal printing policy; 4. Eco-friendly office supplies; 5. Minimal giveaways; 6. Conscious office cleaning; 7. Tap water instead of bottled water.

CO2 COMPENSATION

The next step towards climate neutrality: offsetting our annual carbon footprint. We take this path together with ECOLOGI. The non-profit organisation helps companies to establish climate initiatives in their corporate structures. ECOLOGI's total profit is measured in impact and flows directly into projects that specifically promote aspects of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, they ensure comprehensive transparency: all projects, partners and annual figures can be viewed on the website. "the wearness" is climate neutral since October 2020. With the help of ECOLOGI, we offset our CO2 emissions and support important projects.

PRESERVING PRIME BRAZILIAN RAINFOREST

The goal of the Agrocortex REDD+ project is to prevent the deforestation of 30,0006 ha in the Amazon rainforest, which corresponds to an emission reduction of 14,507,808 tonnes of CO2 during the 30-year project period. Illegal logging is prevented through increased monitoring. Firefighter training and maintenance of fire extinguishers and forestry equipment will reduce fires. Through sustainable timber harvesting and the replanting of indigenous and rare species such as mahogany. Clear-cutting is prevented. Managing the forest will mean employment for nearly 400 workers in the region. This project is verified by the Verified Carbon Standard and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards.

WIND POWER IN ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA

The wind power project in Andhra Pradesh, developed by Orange Anantapur Wind Power Pvt Ltd, involves the installation and operation of 50 wind turbines. The total installed capacity of the project activity is 100 MW, consisting of 50 wind turbines with a capacity of 2000 kW each. The aim is to generate electrical power through wind energy, which will be fed into the Indian power grid, replacing electricity generated by fossil fuels, or coal mines. When fully operational, the project will be able to reduce around 200,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year. This project will also help alleviate poverty in the region by creating employment opportunities for local people. This project is verified by the Gold Standard.

PLANTING TREES

With the support of ECOLOGI, we plant a tree for every item sold on "the wearness".

MANGROVE PLANTING IN MADAGASCAR

Madagascar is a country with over 200,000 plant and animal species. But more than 90% of Madagascar's original forests have been destroyed, displacing entire animal species and taking away the Malagasy’s ability to farm and live on the land. Entire mangrove estuaries have disappeared, leaving bare earth washed into the sea. The non-profit organisation Eden Reforestation Projects is reforesting the island. Eden is a world leader in responsible reforestation and has already planted 265 million trees and created 2.6 million working days for local communities. On designated land, in the northwest of the island, near Marataolain, two million mangroves are being planted on an area of 1,354 hectares (about 180km2).

REFORESTATION IN MOZAMBIQUE

In the past, Mozambique had huge mangrove estuaries and forests. Today, they are largely destroyed by intensive logging for firewood and charcoal. Over 45% of the population in the village of Changalane lives below the poverty line, and relies on natural resources and forests for survival. This project will employ 15 full-time nursery workers to plant and raise saplings and 30 full-time planters from the local village. Logging of trees for firewood has resulted in a severely degraded environment. With the help of a planting partner, Eden Reforestation will plant 1,000,000 deciduous trees, helping to restore an ecosystem and prevent further deforestation by alleviating poverty and creating a long-term care and protection plan.

CIRCULAR COLLECTION

Our own collection. Every three months we will launch a new piece. The unique aspect of our Capsule Collection is the consistently sustainable concept and the commitment to the principles of the Circular Economy. Items that convince with timeless design and leave no waste on the earth. The motivation for our own small collection came from a question we keep asking ourselves: How can we get away from wasting resources and mountains of discarded clothing. The result: No more fast fashion, instead a collection that is made from recycled materials and is 100% biodegradable. The concept of circular economy and cradle-to-cradle principle is based on nature and biological cycles - because these leave no waste.

biodegradable PACKAGING

We want our packaging to have as little impact on the environment as possible. That is why we have decided for a plant-based alternative. Our Better Packaging Co. packaging bags are made from corn and are therefore biodegradable. The materials of the comPOST Packs are certified AS 5810-2010 for Home Composting, meaning they will be completely degraded by microorganisms in the natural world under compost conditions. Ultimately this generates carbon dioxide and water and does not pollute the environment. They can be composted at home and completely degrade within 3-6 months. For plastic-free oceans, a protected environment and a better future.

COMMITTED TO THE SDG´S

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, is a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and in the future. At its heart there are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call to action for all countries in a global partnership. They acknowledge that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand in hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality and boost economic growth - all while tackling climate change and helping to protect our oceans and forests. "the wearness" and all brands we feature are committed to the implementation of the SDGs and make a positive contribution to the following goals.
