HANDCRAFTED FAIR TRADE ACCESSORIES

According to the philosophy "Let's spread good vibes, people!" the label Hiitu produces colorful jewelry and playful leather accessories with craftsmen from all over the world. Thanks to sustainable materials and fair production, a good mood is guaranteed!

Carlotta and Rosalie Cramer-Klett launched a design project in 2015 with the goal to create synergies between people and nature through creative collaborations. The idea: Under the name HIITU, they created a very special collection of accessories with carefully selected craftsmen and manufacturers from different cultural areas, which will accompany their owners for a whole lifetime.

The sisters Carlotta and Rosalie Cramer-Klett from Hiitu.

The sisters from Bavaria draw inspiration from their roots. They are descended from the Indian tribe of the Skidi Pawnee from Nebraska. In their language Caddo means "Hiitu" feather - one of the most important symbols of the American natives. In the label's collections, however, there are influences from all over the world.

On the label's website, each craft business is presented individually. More transparency is hardly possible! Leather products are produced in Portugal by two small family businesses. The leather is vegetable tanned and comes from a Tuscan tannery. The belts and eyeglass straps, which belong to the HIITU bestsellers, are hand-woven in the small workshop of master weaver Youssef in Morocco. His family has been making the most beautiful decorations for traditional Moroccan caftan dresses for generations.

As a special highlight, the label has created a particularly innovative jewellery collection: The Pick-n-Mix line consists of simple earrings, necklaces and chokers, which can be decorated and individualised according to your mood using the colourful pearls and plates supplied. So the pieces of jewellery never get boring!

The core of HIITU? Craftsmanship!

Hiitu produces the jewellery with two producers in Kenya. One of them is the Basecamp Maasai Brand, which was founded in the Maasai Mara and supports Maasai women from the area. The Candy collection was designed in collaboration with Urban Artefacts, a small, talented team in Nairobi. The pearls for the collection come from the Fair Trade ceramic factory Kazuri, which supports single mothers. All beads are hand-rolled and hand-painted. "HIITU's concept is based on the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with our design ideas," explain the founders. "We travelled a long way to find the best craftsmen. Handcrafted is the key idea of HIITU."
