After her fashion design studies at the International Fashion School Esmod Munich and a Master in Fashion Brand Management at Polimoda in Florence, Clara Dorothea gained first experiences at renowned companies like Schumacher, Moncler and Hugo Boss. The search for a new dirndl became for Clara Chrocziel, the occasion to design her own collection of timelessly simple but special dirndls. With the goal of creating a modern and individual alternative to traditional costume, she founded her eponymous label Clara Dorothea in Munich in 2015. Meanwhile, the collection is complemented by a line of timeless dresses, blouses and knitwear.
Clara Chrocziel, the founder and designer of Clara Dorothea
The label's focus is on high-quality craftsmanship, the finest materials from Europe and an elegant, pared-down design. Clara combines traditional details and cuts with a subtly coordinated color palette. Clear lines, renunciation of decorations and playful details as well as the changeability of the models are the focus of Clara Dorothea's style. The garments are intended to be combinable in a variety of ways, both in traditional costume and in everyday life.
"The wearer must feel comfortable - that is the most important thing. Only when you don't feel dressed up or constricted is it possible to really enjoy wearing something."
Clara herself is from Frankfurt and did not grow up wearing traditional costume - a circumstance that gives her a new perspective on the world of trachten and a slightly different approach.

Design and pattern development of the collection in the Munich studio of Clara Dorothea
All materials are sourced exclusively from Europe as production and processing standards can be easily controlled here, preferably from traditional weaving mills and family-run businesses. The entire production takes place in German handicraft workshops. The focus is on preserving and supporting local craftsmanship. By working closely together, they can ensure where and how exactly the styles are produced and transportation is kept short. The label works with pure natural materials, some with GOTS certification, and a lot of dead-stock fabrics.
All of Clara Dorothea's collection pieces are meant to be worn as long as possible. This is guaranteed not only by high-quality materials and the best workmanship. In addition, the atelier offers alterations, adjustments and repairs. This ensures that the garments not only fit perfectly but also remain beautiful for a particularly long time.
